Free NetBeans Platform Certification Training in Goettingen, Germany

From 29 September to 1 October 2009, during the upcoming Source Talk Tage Conference in Goettingen, Germany, a NetBeans Platform Certified Training will be held. Students and members of non-profit organisations will have the opportunity to attend this two-day training for free. At the end of the course, each attendee will get a certificate.

Here is a list of the topics covered during the two days:

Day 1:

  • Intro & Simple Port of a Swing Application

  • Window System (Part 1)

  • Window System (part 2)

  • Nodes & Views

  • Workshop

Day 2:

  • Visual Library

  • Workshop

  • Lookup

  • Module System

  • Workshop

  • Wrap Up

24 places with preinstalled course software will be available, but it's also possible to BYON (bring your own notebook) and free wireless access is available. All BYON attendees should come with a Java 6 JDK and the latest version of NetBeans IDE, which is NetBeans IDE 6.7.1, preinstalled on their laptops.

About the certification program:

  • NetBeans Certified Associate. Received upon completion of the two day course. The basic level of certification, which is given for attendance only. The level and quality of the participant's understanding is not tested and therefore not guaranteed in any way.

  • NetBeans Certified Engineer. Received upon completion of the homework, done in the months after completion of the course, to a suitable level of quality. The recipient of this level of certification has shown a significant level of understanding of the NetBeans Platform. When faced with two choices while completing their task, they will have chosen the direction that is most correct for working with the NetBeans Platform. For example, if they port a Java application to the NetBeans Platform, they will use a TopComponent instead of a JFrame.

  • NetBeans Certified Committer. On providing work, done after completiomn of the course, that is of a level of quality and usefulness for it to be accepted as a contribution to the NetBeans sources. The recipient of this level of certification has produced work that is not only of a very high quality but that is useful to NetBeans IDE. Moreover, the recipient has reacted promptly and accurately to the advice given by the instructors based on feedback received while doing their task. The recipient has a proven understanding of the development processes and is completely aligned with the NetBeans Platform's paradigms. In addition, the recipient has formally agreed to their work being integrated into the NetBeans sources.

All attendees will be supported during certification through a special mailing list.

For commercial customers, the attendance fee is 699 euro. There's an Early Bird Discount for registrations before September 4th 2009, the reduced fee being 599 euro. The training is free for students and members of non profit organisations.
